I ran across these paintable wall applications from Fold Bedding on Style Hive. I love the look, but they are a little pricey for my taste at $42 for a package of 8. The applications are available in several other shapes, including "retro slats," which had a very cool, architectural look.
Check out the site for inspiration. This is the sort of thing you could do yourself with a lot of time and patience. Since I have little of either, I'm going to hope someone copies these on the cheap soon.
