Twin Peaks Gold Edition DVD

Log cabins, small town diners, odd taxidermy, donuts, biker bars, cross-border bordellos, drug running, buxom school girls, ghostly murderers, and cherry pie. Just an average day in Twin Peaks. The fictional city was the subject of David Lynch and Mark Frost's kinky-kitsch soap-opera about murder and small town life in the Northwest.

The show premiered to rave reviews, but survived only 29 episodes. To this day, it is my all time favorite TV series (sorry Lost).

I recently re-watched Twin Peaks season one, and I was surprised to see how well the cabin-chic decor held up (not to mention the creep-factor).









So in honor of the Twin Peaks Gold Edition DVD, releasing 10/30, here are my suggestions for bringing a little Lynch-inspired design to your home.

Red velvet curtains are must. They were everywhere from One-Eyed Jack's to dream sequences. Restoration Hardware has Vintage Velvet Drapes in Sienna for between $150 and $400.

A Faux Bois console from Crate and Barrel for $699. Log furniture, the log lady, log cabins. You can't conjure the Twin Peaks aesthetic with out a nod to knotty pine.


A modern cork version of the zig-zag floor from Agent Cooper's dreams. I wish my dreams were so stylish. $98 for 12 tiles at Branch.


And the look wouldn't be complete without a little taxidermy. A humane deer trophy from the Curiosity Shop, $450.

Worth Watching: Welcome to the Parker

I did a lot of channel surfing this weekend. And something that caught my eye as I flipped through the stations is Bravo's series, Welcome to the Parker.

The show follows the staff of the Parker, a gorgeous Palm Springs resort hotel, as they bend over backwards to cater to their demanding guests. But what makes it so worth watching is that the whole place was designed by Jonathan Adler in a style that he calls "Happy Chic."

I loved the second episode, in which Adler himself heads to the Parker to check in on the decor and offer advice on how to keep it up to his exacting standards. It was a great peak into what Adler was thinking when he created the design and the drive that makes him so successful. Plus, he plays the property manager at ping pong. Bravo is streaming the episode online now.

The Interiors of Mad Men

I caught AMC's Mad Men last night and absolutely loved it. It was full of chain-smoking, philandering, and unabashed sexism, so much so as to make you squirm in your seat just a little. It's surprisingly refreshing.

As a bonus, the show was full of amazing 1960s interiors, like this one from a bar scene. I'm obsessed with this zebra wallpaper, but have had no luck tracking anything this sophisticated down online.

Shameless Plea: Save "How I Met Your Mother"

I ran across an entry on Modern Cottage asking us to go watch "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS Mondays at 7 pm Central time. I want to echo this plea. I love TV and I'll admit it. I watch a lot as I work in the kitchen or on the computer, and "How I Met Your Mother" is by far my favorite sit-com.

I'm so shocked to hear that CBS is considering canceling it. So please, please, tune in and give it a chance. I will attest that this show has some of the best, funniest writing on TV and a wonderful cast. You don't need to catch up on the plot, you can jump right in or read a little back story here.

So CBS, if you're reading. Please don't take this gem off the air.
