I wish these pretty ceramic cherry blossoms could be hung on a wall. But they'd be lovely scattered across a table.

DwellStudio for Target: Not Just for Kids

I just read that DwellStudio has a new line of children's furniture for Target.

If you don't have kids, don't worry. Some of the items would be just as cute in your living room as they would be in a baby's room.

For example, this Zebra Rug ($179) is exactly the right combination of cute and chic for a big girl like me.

Messy Table Cloth

Have you ever used a table cloth? I've never been partial to them. It just seems easier to wipe the table top.

It probably doesn't help that most stores stock only the most stodgy and traditional styles.

But check out this Messy Table Cloth (apparently only available on this Polish-language site). I could actually see myself using something fun like this. And it's black, so it will be easy to get the inevitable red wine stains out.

Print Room Stencils

If you're a fan of the 18th century print room, or The Family wallpaper, you will like the new line of stencils from Stencil Library.

Long story short, these stencils give you a place to paste your photos or art prints directly to the wall without having to hang wallpaper.

Of course, you will have to stencil, but for rooms like bathrooms and kitchens, wallpaper is probably a no-go anyways.

Plate Hanger Innovation

I love hanging plates on the wall. They are great for visual pop, relatively inexpensive, and easily changed when the mood strikes. But, I absolutely hate those wire plate hangers.

First, I always get my fingers pinched while I'm trying to stretch the springs and get the hooks over the edge of the plate. Second, I hate the way the little hook tips look against the plate's surface. They're distracting and can chip the edges. And third, when I walk through the house, I can hear the little metal springs vibrating (curse of a pier-and-beam).

Today I found out that there is a solution, thanks to decor8. She found adhesive plate hangers (shown right). They stick on and come off when soaked in warm water. They're imported from England and available at A.C. Moore (which we don't have in Dallas) and online here.

I can finally hang an awesome plate collage, like the one above, without a puncture wound.

Yee-Haw Wallpaper

As a Texas girl, I can't help but love this Yee-Haw wallpaper by Paul Loebach. The pattern features cowboys on horseback, oil wells, and even some tiny little football helmets.

I am always a sucker for equestrian anything. Loafers with decorative bits, worn leather boots, and the drawings in this room from the 2006 Hampton Island Showcase.

Turkish Tiles from Ann Sacks

Ann Sacks now has a line of beautiful Iznik tiles . The designs are true to Turkish tradition, filled with deep blues, aqua, forest green, and red. The patterns are bold, especially on a large scale. But they're right in keeping with the new bold wallpaper prints.

Recently, Elle Decor used what looks like Turkish tile in their Morroccan Fantasy room for DIFFA (shown below). It is really stunning.

Outfits as Art

Chinese Lattice Wallaper

I love the geometric busyness of "Chinese Lattice" from Bob Collins. I had to look at the top photo a few times before I was 100% convinced this is wall paper. It almost creates an optical illusion.

Anais Nin's Hideaway at Silverlake

The LA Times site currently has some lovely photos of Anais Nin's Silverlake 1-bedroom hideaway. The author, famous for her erotic writings and diaries, had just the sort of immaculate and femininely exotic tastes you might expect (especially if you've seen Henry and June).





I am fascinated by this photo of her desk (right). I love the little portrait and the fish sculpture. It has personality but looks clean and minimal.

In the main room of her home, the combination of lavender, fuchsia, blue, gold and brown is so subtle. The decor gains life, femininity and movement from the color, while maintaining a zen-like sense of peace and neutrality.

What a beautiful place to be inspired.
