Shopgoodwill.com Gets an Awesome Overhaul

My favorite online charity shop recently got a major face-lift. I just cruised over to shopgoodwill.com to look for some inexpensive art and found an entirely new, easier-to-use home page.

If you shopped the site in the past, you know that items were listed text-only. You had to click each link to see the product. But now, the listings include thumbnail photos of the items, just like eBay.

Hooray Goodwill.

A Little Bit Gothy at Anthropologie

A few items from the October Anthropologie catalog caught my eye.

I like this dark Hairpin wallpaper accented with bright purple. Obviously, these are hairpins, but they look a little like jellyfish. I've always been a fan of the jellyfish tank at the aquarium. It's very ethereal to watch the light reflecting off of them as they float around.

I also like these black Burnout Velvet curtains. They remind me of something you'd find in a haunted mansion.

Istanbul and Zara Home

We're spending the next few weeks in Istanbul visiting family and friends and attending a wedding.

The weather here is beautiful, about 90 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night. And other than a puny mosquito (at least by Texas standards) that keeps tentatively buzzing by my ear, I have not a care.

I've already had the chance to do a little shopping. I was finally able to see Zara Home first hand. You can read more about my shopping experience on Shak in Style.

I'll be updating whenever I get the chance with photos and stories from Istanbul.

This is the view from our balcony in Tarabya. During prayer time, you can hear the calls of three different mosques mingling together and surprisingly harmonious.

Home Depot has Modern Furniture and it's on Sale

Home Depot has been touting their home decor items on the radio for a few months now. I really never gave it a second thought, picturing mini blinds and cheap veneered side tables with attached lamps (sorry Home Depot), but I was so wrong. After seeing a 30% off deal for Home Depot furniture on the Bargainist, I clicked the link to find this set of mirrored parsons tables for $391 (left), and this Bardot cocktail table for $294 (right)! I am very, very impressed.

Componibilli Cabinet

Via Design Milk, the Componibilli Cabinet would make a great bedside table as well as a great storage piece for the bathroom. The piece costs £60 at Graham and Green.

Target Site Table Round-up

I spent a little time today searching Target.com for end tables. I didn't find what I was looking for (which is inexpensive white lacquer end tables), but they did have some really great things. I adore Target, but find their site a little hard to sift through with so many choices and no truly effective way to sort through them to the things you want. So here is the best of what I found:

I'm not too fond of how this was photographed, but the piece is so simple and functional, and available in many colors. The Stockholm Cylinder, about $140 for the tray and cylinder at Target.com.


Ok, this isn't an end table, but it is a great red leather ottoman-sleeper in the style of Storehouse Furniture's (but about $300 less!). It pops-out into a twin-sized bed! It's a little bit pricey, but well rated by buyers. Red Leather Ottoman Sleeper, $599.99 at Target.com.

Design I Wish I Could Afford at Modernity

Modernity, a Swedish shop featuring mid-century design, has some really amazing pieces featured on their site. It's certainly worth a look, if just for the sake of inspiration.

Furniture Sale at Hadley and Harriet's

The Dallas Morning News' shopping blog has this note about a sale at Hadley and Harriet's. It is the store in the old house on Lemmon Ave., next to the La Madeline. The store has 30-75% off on furniture.

Storehouse on Lover's Officially Closed

Driving by the Storehouse location on Lovers yesterday evening, I noticed that it is totally dark and empty. I'm not sure about the one on the Tollway, but hopefully someone got some good deals before the store was shuttered.

Their Web site also appears to be gone.
