Shopgoodwill.com Gets an Awesome Overhaul

My favorite online charity shop recently got a major face-lift. I just cruised over to shopgoodwill.com to look for some inexpensive art and found an entirely new, easier-to-use home page.

If you shopped the site in the past, you know that items were listed text-only. You had to click each link to see the product. But now, the listings include thumbnail photos of the items, just like eBay.

Hooray Goodwill.

Relic Necklace from Etsy

I'm not usually big on jewelry, but this yellow coral necklace from Etsy seller Mme. Fortuna is quite intriguing.

The piece is from a collection called Relic. Each hand-blown glass orb is filled with an every-day natural item turned "object", like a feather or a bit of earth.

The series is inspired by Victorian morning jewelry.

Each orb measures approximately 1" and hangs on a gold fill chain.

Radiator Food Warmer

The grass is always greener on the other side. But, if you live in Texas you might find yourself wishing it didn't stay green so much of the year.

We don't really get a lot of seasons here in Dallas. Example: it's November, 13th, and today's high is 86. We still have our air conditioners running.

So when I see something like this radiator-top breakfast tray, I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy.

We don't get many days that require radiators. Or have radiators, for that matter. But I like to imagine curling up in a warm chair on a cold day and enjoying a book, a latte and a muffin.

Spam One-Liners

I found a link to these amazing examples of hand-drawn typography on Joshua Blankenship's blog.

The series of one-liners, found on Flickr, are by Linzie Hunter. Each line is taken from spam she's received.

There's some buzz in the comment section asking Hunter to sell prints of the series. I certainly hope that she will.

Potty Mouth Rides Again

Ok, I admit it. I'm a total potty mouth. And nothing makes me happier than seeing cute hand-made stuff covered in naughty-isms.

You may remember the Mean Bags I posted last week. If you liked those, you will be glad to discover Etsy Seller SpiderCamp.

Her work includes cute, slightly malformed felt bunnies with adorable button eyes embroidered with words like "shite," "poop," and "asshat."

She also makes "bunnies of purity," if you're into that sort of thing.

Decal-ification

Blik's wall decals have been popular for years. So it's no surprise that the bold, graphic, movable design element is making it's way off of the walls and into the rest of the home.

Over the last few days, I found two posts (1 & 2) on Decor8 featuring single-color pops of pattern in unusual places. Both are from emerging Swedish designers.

This black-on-pink floor pattern is amazing. I can't tell if it's a stencil done in high-gloss paint or a wall appliqué applied creatively, but I like it.

And this silicon table cloth from Wis Design gives a visual pop that can change easily with your moods.

Possible DIY project: I have a set of Ikea's Klubbo tables that could be easily dressed up with decals like these from Chiasso.

Print Room Stencils

If you're a fan of the 18th century print room, or The Family wallpaper, you will like the new line of stencils from Stencil Library.

Long story short, these stencils give you a place to paste your photos or art prints directly to the wall without having to hang wallpaper.

Of course, you will have to stencil, but for rooms like bathrooms and kitchens, wallpaper is probably a no-go anyways.

Trends: Black for Fall

Black is back. And it's amazing how this once daunting hue lends warmth and depth to an interior.

Decor8 has an amazing guest post by Rachel Perls of Hue Consulting about decorating with black. It's filled with amazing photos.

And in response, The Kitchen Designer has a post about black kitchens (a trend I'm considering for my own home).

I'm especially fond of the black bathroom. It seems very elegant and really makes a the white porcelain pop.

Twin Peaks Gold Edition DVD

Log cabins, small town diners, odd taxidermy, donuts, biker bars, cross-border bordellos, drug running, buxom school girls, ghostly murderers, and cherry pie. Just an average day in Twin Peaks. The fictional city was the subject of David Lynch and Mark Frost's kinky-kitsch soap-opera about murder and small town life in the Northwest.

The show premiered to rave reviews, but survived only 29 episodes. To this day, it is my all time favorite TV series (sorry Lost).

I recently re-watched Twin Peaks season one, and I was surprised to see how well the cabin-chic decor held up (not to mention the creep-factor).









So in honor of the Twin Peaks Gold Edition DVD, releasing 10/30, here are my suggestions for bringing a little Lynch-inspired design to your home.

Red velvet curtains are must. They were everywhere from One-Eyed Jack's to dream sequences. Restoration Hardware has Vintage Velvet Drapes in Sienna for between $150 and $400.

A Faux Bois console from Crate and Barrel for $699. Log furniture, the log lady, log cabins. You can't conjure the Twin Peaks aesthetic with out a nod to knotty pine.


A modern cork version of the zig-zag floor from Agent Cooper's dreams. I wish my dreams were so stylish. $98 for 12 tiles at Branch.


And the look wouldn't be complete without a little taxidermy. A humane deer trophy from the Curiosity Shop, $450.

Halloween Style Year-Round

I just discovered the Blackman Cruz online workshop. They seem to be the source of every amazing, goth-inspired piece that I've ever seen in a magazine, liked, and been unable to locate.

So in honor of Halloween, I am posting my favorite pieces from BC. Even though they are mercilessly out of my price range and just admiring them is pure torture.

Prices are not listed on the site, but Pimp Lighting lists the skull lamp at $2200. Scary.
